Experts in medicine and science spend much of their time instructing other professionals, either in an educational capacity or for the dissemination of knowledge. The media for such medical illustrations includes textbooks, medical and scientific journals, posters and lecture slides. The illustrations in the above portfolio are all from slide decks used for presentation via Powerpoint, or my preference, Apple Keynote. Such illustrations must be a “quick read,” considering that they are rarely viewed for more than seconds. Unnecessary detail is kept to a minimum and text is designed to be easily readable with minimal labels. Body text (paragraphs) are avoided as the narration should come from the mouth of the presenter, not from text on the slide. Elements are also designed to be easy to animate, if required.
